Winnebago County trail open to public

A project, 40 years in the making, is finally complete in Winnebago County.

The county's portion of the 29 mile PEcatonica Prairie Trail is now open to the public. The 12.5 mile path welcomes bike riders, walkers and cross country skiers. It runs from Meridian Rd. west to the Stephenson County line.

The whole project has been underway since the 1970s. The prairie path is the largest single section of the northern portion of the Grand Illinois Trail.
