Foreclosure activity in Illinois dropped six percent last month when compared to July, and is down nearly 60 percent in the last year.
According to a report released by California-based RealtyTrac, Illinois had 7,289 foreclosure filings during August, or one in every 725 housing units, giving Illinois the eighth-highest ranking in the country. Default notices, auction-sale notices, and bank repossessions were included in the filings.
Nevada had the highest rate of filings in the country with one in every 359 housing units. Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, and Utah also ranked lower than Illinois.
Nationally, August's rate was nearly two percent lower than July's and 34 percent lower than August of last year.
