Rockford burglary suspect arrested on drug charges

A 19-year-old Rockford man was taken into custody Tuesday after police saw him walking through the North Towne Mall parking lot.

Officers were aware Michael A. Scott was a suspect in prior burglaries and stopped him. While officers were speaking with him, a substance believed to be cannabis and a substance believed to be cocaine were recovered from the vehicle Scott was driving. Scott was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Violation of the Illinois Controlled Substances Act - Possession of Cocaine
  • Violation of the Cannabis Control Act - Possession of Cannabis
  • Residential Burglary - 1032 S. Johnston Avenue (August 26, 2013)

As a result of his arrest, a burglary at 1025 Hopkins Court was also cleared.
