We have a big slate of Friday Night Football games this week, highlighted by a NIC-10 showdown between Boylan and Harlem. The Titans were down 21-0 to Hononegah at halftime last Friday, before coming all the way back to win 35-34 and extend their conference winning streak to 68 games. Harlem is 2-0 so far on the season, after beating Freeport and East pretty handily. The Huskies are the last NIC-10 team to beat Boylan. That was in 2005, when Harlem shut out the Titans 10-0. The two squads meet at 7:15 at Boylan as the Titans try to make it 69 in a row in the conference.
Hononegah had a tough second half as Boylan forced several turnovers to aid in its comeback. So the Indians will be out to get back in the win column against Belvidere North. Belvidere North picked up a big comeback win over Auburn last week, climbing out of a 19-0 deficit and winning 20-19 thanks to a late touchdown drive after a fumble.
After letting that lead slip away, Auburn looks to avoid dropping to 0-3 to start the season when the Knights host Belvidere. The Bucs are looking to improve to 3-0 after a 43-8 victory over Jefferson last Friday night.
East makes the trip to Guilford in a battle for Swanson Stadium bragging rights. The two schools that share a field have had different starts to the season. The E-Rabs are 0-2 and have been outscored 87-6 in their first two games. The G-Vikes are 2-0 and have shut out their opponents to the tune of 85-0 through two games.
The final game in the NIC-10 features Freeport and Jefferson in Pretzel country. Both teams come into the game 0-2 in need of their first win of the season. Freeport running back Steve McShane missed last week's loss to Guilford with an injury. The J-Hawks have been outscored 88-8 in two games this year.
Outside of the NIC-10, Rockford Lutheran tries to move to 3-0 as the Crusaders take on Rock Falls. Byron crosses over in the Big Northern to face Harvard, while Winnebago travels to Mendota. Stillman Valley takes on rival Oregon, while North Boone makes the trip to Marengo. In the NUIC, Aquin plays host to Orangeville a week after the Bulldogs lost to Stockton in overtime. The number one ranked Blackhawks are in Polo to try to get another win, and Durand hosts Lena-Winslow.
Tune in Friday night at 10:15 for scores and highlights of all these games and more.
