The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference awarded its first Student-Athlete of the Week honors late Monday night, and the Regents were on the receiving end of one of those awards. Senior wide receiver Delroy Russell Jr. (Richmond, Calif./Albany) was named NACC Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week. Russell becomes the second offensive player from Rockford in as many years to win the award from the NACC.
Delroy Russell Jr. had probably the best day of any receiver in the program's history. Russell hauled in 9 passes for a school record 201 receiving yards. The senior was also responsible for two of Rockford's three touchdowns. He scored Rockford's first touchdown of the season late in the second quarter when he broke a tackle and went 52 yards for the score. Russell later added the team's final score of the game in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard touchdown reception.
The Regents open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, September 14th against Loras College. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Sam Greeley Field.
