Rockford Park District turning on spray pads, canceling activities


Due to Tuesday's oppressive heat, the Rockford Park District is taking measures to keep area residents cool by turning on spray pads and canceling outdoor activities.

The spray pads will be turned on from noon to 8:00 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Beattie Playground
  • Black Hawk Park
  • Bloom School Playground
  • Brown Park
  • Churchill Park
  • Dahlquist Park
  • S. Henrietta Park
  • Harmon Park
  • Keye-Mallquist Park
  • Liberty Park
  • Washington Park
  • Mandeville Park

The following activities have also been canceled because of the high temperatures:

  • Lockwood Park:
    • Horseback Riding Lessons (Level 2 Western - Bits and Reins)
  • Lewis Lemon:
    • After School Program
  • Therapeutic Recreation:
    • Peer Play programs at Rockford Public Schools

The Washington Park Community Center will open early to accommodate for early dismissal. Tuesday's hours of operations are noon to 8:30 p.m.
