It's not easy to think of many things still going strong after 100 years. But as Rockford resident Allie Farley celebrates her 100th birthday, it's clear she's far from slowing down.
"I never paid much attention to my birthday's when they went. I mean it's just another birthday," said Farley.
But this year, Allie's birthday is getting plenty of attention. It's not every day you turn 100. And it's not every day you meet a person like Allie.
"I play pool, older people don't do that," she said.
In fact, at the Grand Victorian Independent Living Community where she lives, she's known as a pool shark.
"I don't call myself that but that's what people calls me," said Farley.
She's modest at first, but make no mistake, she's confident. And after seeing her play a round, it's clear she earned her "pool shark" title.
Shot after shot, the 100-year-old gives her competitors a run for their money. Her energy and ability may seem shocking for a 100-year-old but Allie's granddaughter says it's no surprise.
"They have an exercise program here and I say grandma, why aren't you going to exercise? She says, they're too slow!" said Jessica Vetterli.
It wouldn't be a birthday without a present. The staff at Grand Victorian made it a special one, commemorating Allie's pool hall talent by naming the billiards room after her. Even though there was no denying it before, not it's officially Allie's pool hall. And according to her, it's one heck of a birthday to remember.
"It's nice, very nice. And I've enjoyed all of it," she said.
To put Allie's lifetime in perspective, in her 100 years on Earth she's seen 16 presidents, 10 popes and two world wars.
