2 charged in 11th Street crash that left man dead

Two men face charges after a early Labor Day morning accident in the 5600 block of 11th Street left a Rockford man dead.

Rockford police have charged 19-year-old Steven Pancyrz of New Milford and 38-year-old Kenneth Berg of Harvard in the crash that killed 35-year-old Richard Parker.

Police say Pancyrz was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy north when he rear-ended a 2007 Chrysler 300 that was driven by Berg. Parker was in the backseat of the Chrysler. Both vehicles ended up in a ditch and Parker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pancyrz has been lodged in the Winnebago County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Reckless driving
  • Reckless homicide
  • Aggravated driving under the influence involving death
  • Suspended driver's license
  • No insurance
  • Minor drinking

Berg faces the following charges:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving under the influence, BAC over .08
