Last night around 12:13 a.m. Rockford Police officers responded to the area of 5600 11th Street in reference to a traffic crash.  When they got to the scene they located an SUV and a car in a ditch.

A male passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being released at this time.  One other passenger in the car and the driver of the SUV were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers conducting the investigation learned that the SUV was traveling north on 11th Street and collided with the rear of the car which caused both vehicles to leave the roadway. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash and charges are pending at this time.
