Applications for Illinois Concealed Carry Firearms Instructor and Curriculum are now available on the website for Illinois State Police.

Individuals who wish to be instructors must electronically submit fingerprints through a state-licensed Livescan vendor to expedite the background check. They must also be at least 21, a legal resident of the United States, have or be eligible for a FOID card, and be eligible for a Concealed Carry License. In addition, they must also have a high school diploma or GED and at least one of the following certifications:

  • Certification from a law enforcement agency
  • Certification from a firearm instructor course offered by a state or federal governmental agency
  • Certification from a firearm instructor course offered by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board
  • Certification from an entity approved by the Illinois State Police that offers firearm instructor education and training in the use and safety of firearms, such as the National Rifle Association of America (NRA)

Those who wish to apply for a concealed carry license must complete approved training from an approved Illinois Concealed Carry Firearms Instructor. Applications for the license will be available in January.

You can find the applications as well as a directory of approved instructors and approved courses at www.isp.state.il.us.
