Aviators Lose Home Finale to River City

River City starter Casey Barnes pitched a complete game and allowed just two earned runs as the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, lost to the Rascals 8-4 Thursday night at Aviators Stadium.

The Aviators scored first, plating two unearned runs in the bottom of the second. Three errors allowed Rockford to load the bases for Jeff Kremer, who picked up a two-RBI single to give the Aviators an early 2-0 lead.
River City got a run back in the top of the third when Stephen Malcolm scored on a passed ball to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
The Rascals then added three runs in the top of the fifth on four hits and two Rockford errors. Just one of the three runs were earned, but River City took a 4-1 lead.
Kenny Bryant led off the Rockford sixth with a single and scored two batters later on a Michael Hur sacrifice fly to cut the River City lead to 4-3.
The Rascals plated four more in the seventh on five hits to go up 8-2.
Matt Grenner hit his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth to finish the scoring with Rockford on the short end 8-4.
The Aviators now begin a season-ending six-game road trip over the next seven days. Rockford goes to Gateway to start a three game series starting Friday at 7:05 p.m.
