Illinois politicians want to improve the state's physical education programs.
A state task force released a 148 page report Wednesday that was submitted to Governor Pat Quinn.
Lawmakers want new strategies for P. E. programs to raise the emphasis on lifetime fitness and lessen the focus on sports. The report notes a link between physical activity and improved academic performance.
The co-chairs of the task force are Illinois Superintendent of Education Christopher Koch and Department of Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck.
