LOVES PARK (WREX) -

The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh with five runs Wednesday night and held on for the 5-0 win, ending River City's eight game winning streak in the process.

Rockford starter Nick Grim was outstanding, tossing seven innings of socreless, two-hit ball against River City, who entered with the fourth best batting average in the Frontier League. Grim walked four and struck out three on his way to earning his second win this season.

A scoreless game going into the bottom of the seventh, Matt Greener walked to lead off and was lifted for pinch runner Cohl Walla. Kenny Bryant then doubled off the top of the 16-foot wall in left to score Walla and give the Aviators a 1-0 lead. With one down, Michael Hur singled home Bryant to make it 2-0. Tryler Smith walked to put runners at first and second for Elvin Rodriguez, who doubled over a drawn-in Rascals infield to score Hur and Smith and extend the lead to 4-0. Rodriguez then scored on a Jeff Kremer RBI double to give Rockford a 5-0 lead and finish the scoring.

Kyle Brueggemann pitched a scoreless eighth, striking out two in the process and Andrew Snowdon pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the game. River City was only able to pick up three hits off the Rockford pitching trio of Grim, Brueggemann and Snowdon.

The rubber-game of the series begins at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Aviators Stadium in Loves Park and is the final home game of the season. Thursday is "Backyard Grill & Bar $1 Beer Night" with Bud Light and 97 ZOK.
