Snappers Shut Down by Burlington

Chris O'Grady limited the Beloit Snappers to one run in five and two-thirds innings while striking out eight and his Burlington Bees went on to a 2-1 win on Wednesday night in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field as 1,020 looked on.

This loss ends Beloit's four game win streak and puts them at 76-60 (32-33 in the second half). Burlington is now 53-77 (27-38 in the second half).
O'Grady (3-1) was simply overpowering. He gave up just three hits and never allowed more than one man to reach base in an inning. At one point, O'Grady retired seven of eight batters, getting all seven outs via the strikeout. The one blemish on his line came when Ryan Mathews hit the first pitch of the sixth inning over the left field fence for his 14th homer this year and second in two days. O'Grady walked just one to go with his eight Ks.
The Bees offense came in the form of single runs in the fourth and fifth. The first rally started with a one out walk to Wade Hinkle off Deyvi Jimenez (2-5). After a single by Exicardo Cayones moved Hinkle to second, Zach Wright made the score 1-0 by driving a double off the wall in center for an RBI. One inning later, Angel Rose doubled that lead with a single that tallied Riley Good.
When O'Grady departed in the sixth, Daniel Hurtado came on and kept the Snappers lineup in check. After beginning his night with a walk, he set down the next five men he faced and when Mathews broke that streak with a single, Hurtado prompty picked him off then proceed to strikeout the next hitter, completing a stellar outing. The ninth inning was the responsibility of Kurt Spomer and he was able to hold the lead with a perfect frame, earning his fifth save.
On Thursday, the Snappers will face the Bees in their second-to-last regular season home game of 2013. The night's probables are RHP Derek DeYoung (7-5, 4.37 ERA) for Beloit and RHP Pat Lowery (4-9, 5.07 ERA) for Burlington. Fans can enjoy another Snappy Hour at Pohlman Field. Eight ounce drafts of Miller Lite are only $1 at the Firehouse Grill and small soft drinks are just $1 at the main stand. The Sud's O'Hanahan's Bullpen Deck and Miller "On Deck will have mixed drinks for only $3.
