Snappers Get 6-5 Win over Clinton

Relievers Nolan Sanburn, Kris Hall and Vince Voiro combined for four scoreless innings and the Beloit Snappers earned a 6-5 decision over the Clinton LumberKings in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field with 520 on hand on Monday night.

The Snappers have won three straight and now find themselves at 74-59 (31-32 in the second half). The Lumberkings have dropped their last five to slide to 64-68 (31-32 in the second half).
Beloit's offense quickly seized the initiative, as their first two hitters in the first inning reached. After an out, Matt Olson (2-4, RBI, 2 runs) rocketed a double into center for an RBI and an error on the play let in a second run. Starting pitcher David Holman (4-7) then unleashed a wild pitch and Olson trotted home with the inning's third and final run.
In the fourth inning, Clinton's offense flexed its muscle and moved ahead. Three consecutive singles loaded the and when Zack Shank got hit by a pitch, the LumberKings had their first run and a walk two batters later made the score 3-2. That brought up Dario Pizzano, who hit a slow chopper to first. Pizzano beat the throw to first for an RBI and error on the play plated a second run, putting Clinton up 4-3. One inning later, a solo homer by Taylor Ard (2-5, HR, RBI, 2 runs), his 7th, put the Snappers in a two-run hole.
In the sixth, Beloit re-took the lead, with a little help from the Clinton defense. A pair of two out singles brought up John Wooten, who lifted a fly ball to fairly deep center. Outfielder Janelfry Zorilla appeared ready to make the catch, but he failed to come up with it, and the result was a three-base error, tallying two unearned runs and tying the game. When the next batter, Renato Nunez, lined a single into right, the Snappers found themselves in the lead.
The trio of Sanburn, Hall and Voiro was responsible for holding the lead and they did so without much trouble. Sanburn (1-3), who'd started his appearance with a scoreless sixth, also tossed a scoreless seventh. Hall then put up a zero in the eighth and Voiro picked up his third save with shutout baseball in the ninth.
