Aviators Blanked by Joliet

The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, had an abundance of opportunities Friday night at Aviators Stadium, but failed to come up with a timely hit and lost the series opener to the Joliet Slammers 2-0.

Joliet's Nick Akins hit his 18th home run of the season, his sixth off of Rockford pitching, to lead off the top of the fourth and give the Slammers a 1-0 lead.
Kolin Conner led off the fifth with a double and scored two batters later on a Jerod Yakubik RBI single to finish the scoring with Joliet earning the 2-0 win.
The Aviators left the bases loaded in the second and in the fourth, left a runner at third in the fifth, left runners at second and third in the sixth, left one at third in the seventh, and left runners on the corners in the eighth. In total, the Aviators left 12 on base, nine in scoring position.
Game two of the series begins at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night on "Fan Appreciation Night".
