Snappers Win Streak Snapped in Kane County

Jeimer Candelario's two-run single and Rock Shoulders' two-run
homer in the seventh inning proved to be the decisive blows in a 5-2 win for
the Kane County Cougars over the Beloit Snappers on Friday night in Midwest
League action at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

The Snappers see their four game win streak come to an end as they stumble
to 71-59 (28-32 in the second half). The Cougars' five game losing streak is
over and they are now 51-74 (21-38 in the second half).

Both teams spent most of the game trying to figure out each other's pitching
staff. Beloit had to deal with rehabbing Cubs pitcher Scott Baker and
reliever Justin Amlung (5-4), who combined for seven innings, giving up only
six hits and striking out seven. Matt Olson (2-4, HR, RBI, run) provided the
only offense against them with a solo homer in the second, his 22nd this
year and fifth in five games.

The Snappers starter was Deyvi Jimenez who limited Kane County to three hits
in six innings. The one run he allowed was unearned and came in the bottom
of the second on a Trevor Gretzky RBI single.

The score remained knotted at 1-1 until the seventh when the Cougars faced
new pitcher Trevor Bayless (1-2). Two one-out singles and a groundout put
men on second and third for Candelario to knock in for a 3-1 edge. When
Shoulders (2-3, HR, 2 RBIs, run) followed with his 18th long ball of the
season, that lead was doubled to four runs.

Beloit tried to fight back, putting up a run on a Brett Vertigan RBI, eighth
inning single but it proved too great of a task. Andrew McKirahan shut them
down in the ninth to end the game.

Saturday will see the start of the Snappers final homestand of the 2013
season and it begins with four games against the Clinton LumberKings.
Saturday's game will begin at 7:00pm and feature a starting pitching matchup
of RHP Derek DeYoung (6-5, 4.46 ERA) for Beloit and LHP Tyler Pike (7-4,
2.35 ERA) for Clinton. Pohlman Field will play host to Packers vs. Bears
night as all fans are encourage to wear their best green and gold, navy and
orange or the jersey of whichever football team they'd like. The best
dressed Packer fan and Bear fan will each win a prize. After the game, the
night's postgame fireworks will come courtesy of McDonalds of Beloit.
