Snappers Shut Out Kane County

Posted:
GENEVA (WREX) -

Andres Avila twirled six innings of shutout baseball and the
Beloit Snappers bankrupted the Kane County Cougars, 4-0, in Midwest League
action at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.

Beloit's win streak now goes to four and their record improves to 70-58
(28-31 in the second half). Kane County suffers its fifth straight defeat
and is now 50-74 (20-38 in the second half).

Avila (6-4) kept the Cougars' lineup off balance all evening in his best and
longest outing as a Snapper. He began the game by facing the minimum in
three of his first four innings and escaped jams in the third and fifth. In
all, he allowed six hits, but only walked one while K'ing four.

The Snappers offense first got on the board in the third thanks to a Daniel
Robertson (1-4, 2 RBI) sacrifice fly. The out scored Nick Rickles, who'd
singled to start the frame, knocking out starting pitcher Felix Pena (4-7).

For the next four innings, the game remained a tight, one run contest, but
in the last two frames, Beloit carved out some breathing room. Sam Roberts
(3-4, run, RBI) added to the lead in the eighth when he doubled to start the
inning and came across on a Robertson fielder's choice. The lead was again
doubled in the ninth, as an RBI double by Rickles and an RBI single by
Roberts made the score 4-0.

Despite Avila's departure after the sixth, Kane County still couldn't get
anything going on offense. Reliever Nolan Sanburn held them down in the
seventh and eighth and Vince Voiro pitched the ninth, putting up another
zero to secure the shutout.

The starters for the final game of this series on Friday are RHP Deyvi
Jimenez (2-4, 7.17 ERA) for the Snappers and RHP Tayler Scott (5-8, 4.21
ERA) for the Cougars. The first pitch time is 6:30pm.
