Freeport Eyes Chance to Bounce Back

Freeport's football team was feeling good after three weeks last season. The Pretzels were 3-0 and tied for the conference lead. Then they lost to Boylan, and finished the season with six straight losses to miss the playoffs.

The Pretzels hope to bounce back with a lot of returning players.

"Some of the guys that played a lot last year, we want to step up and be leaders," head coach Aaron Wichman said. "Steve McShane is out here working hard for us. He's a leader on offense. Quaveon Meeks is another one."

Meeks, a senior quarterback, has some big goals for his final season in Freeport.

"Making it to the playoffs and just having a good season," Meeks said. "We all plan on winning. We just have to put the work in."

Freeport kicks off its season August 30 at Harlem.
