UPDATED: Suspect named in Tuesday hit and run on Auburn

UPDATE:
Loves Park police have identified the driver of the Impala as 27-year-old Timothy D. Dowthard of Rockford. He is currently wanted by police for Tuesday's incident. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call Loves Park police at 815-654-5015 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.

PREVIOUSLY:
Rockford's former mayor gets caught up in some of the city's most recent violence.

Charles Box was in an SUV hit by a Chevy Impala running from police.  This crash happened this afternoon near Auburn Street and Camp Avenue.

According to investigators, Loves Park Police tried to pull the car over for reckless driving, but it took off.  The chase took them into Rockford.  The man driving the car and a woman passenger got out of the car and ran.  Officers searched the nearby neighborhood but never found the pair.

Auburn was shut down for a while from Cumberland to Douglas.

Mayor Box was treated and released from the hospital.
