Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center is offering its autumn session of volunteer training next month.
The training is open to anyone willing to help the organization. An orientation session will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, September 10 at 4215 Newburg Road. It will cover the hospice philosophy and volunteer options. Those who want to work directly with patients and families can continue to take volunteer training courses on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon through October 29.
Volunteers offer companionship and support to hospice patients and their families during the end-of-life process. Training includes listening and communication skills, patient care, family needs, legal psychosocial aspects of death, loss and grief, spirituality, and a visit to a funeral home.
There's a $25 fee and no experience is needed. For more information, visit www.northernillinoishospice.com or call 815-398-0500.
