Snappers Snap Six Game Losing Streak

Matt Olson doubled twice and homered, drove in three and scored twice and the Beloit Snappers outscored the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 8-5, in Midwest League action in front of 691 at Pohlman Field on Monday night.

Beloit's six game losing streak is now over and they stand at 68-58 (25-31 in the second half). Wisconsin falls to 54-67 (25-31 in the second half) after taking the first two games of this series.
The teams started off the game by swapping long balls in the first inning. The Timber Rattlers went up 2-0 when Garrett Cooper (2-4, HR, RBIs, 2 runs) cranked his 2nd homer of the season over the left field wall with a man on. Christopher Bostick answered with a solo blast, his 14th, in the bottom half.  Wisconsin again went ahead by two with an RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez in the second, but the Snappers got back to within one when Olson (3-4, HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) tally-whacked his 18th dinger of the year over the high wall in center.
The third inning is when the Beloit offense erupted against Ryan Gibbard (4-5) and seized a lead they would never lose. A double by Ryan Mathews started things and two batters later, Bostick singled to score him. After a groundout and a walk, Olson's doubled tallied Bostick and Brett Vertigan then dropped a two-run single into center. Vertigan (2-2, 2 RBIs, run) took second on the play on a throw home, allowing him to come across with the fifth run of the inning on a hit by Nick Rickles.
Wisconsin sliced the 7-3 lead in half in the fifth thanks to a Max Walla two-run double, only to see Beloit bump it back up to three in the fifth on a double by Olson that scored John Wooten.
After the fifth inning, both offenses were silenced by the bullpens. The Snappers turned to righty Vince Voiro in the sixth, who replaced starter Derek DeYoung (6-5) after he went five, and Voiro responded with three frames of shutout pitching. The New Jersey native gave up three hits, but didn't walk a batter and struck out three. The responsibility of pitching the ninth fell to Austin House, who worked around a two-out hit to put up a zero for his eighth save.
This series concludes on Tuesday with another evening game beginning at 7:00pm. The Snappers are scheduled to go with RHP Dylan Covey (0-1, 4.54 ERA) while the Timber Rattles will throw RHP Eric Semmelhack (2-6, 4.99 ERA). The dollar is king at Pohlman Field on Tuesday night's College and Dollar Night. All fans who present a valid college ID at the box office can get a general admission ticket for only $1. Fans will be able to purchase hot dogs, small sodas, Pizza Hut pizza slices and small popcorn for $1. Ott Schweitzer will present yet another deal on beer, with 12 ounce drafts of Leinie's priced at just $1.50.
