UPDATED: Man kills himself after standoff with police


UPDATE: After a standoff that lasted from the late night hours Friday into the early morning hours Saturday, Loves Park Police Chief Jim Puckett says the man inside a home killed himself. 

The standoff started when the man, in his 40s pointed a gun at police.  Officers fired as the man returned inside his home.  Then police report hearing a single gunshot.  Communication with the man stopped at the point.

Early Saturday morning a police robot discovered the man's body.

Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia says the man died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

PREVIOUS:There's a reported standoff in Loves Park. A SWAT truck is near the 2300 block of Devon Ave. along with more than a dozen other officers.

Police were putting on heavy gear, armed with their weapons, but no officials have confirmed the seriousness of the situation.
