RVC Hoops Adds Rockford Recruits

Rock Valley College head men's basketball coach Craig Doty, who led the men's basketball program to the NJCAA national tournament last season and a tie for the best finish in school history, put the finishing touches on his 2013-14 recruiting class, a group which is made up of more than a dozen standout high school and transfer student-athletes.

Joining the Golden Eagles program this fall will be freshman forward Ben Grygiel (6-6, 190, Rockford Boylan H.S.), freshman guard Isaiah Box (6-1, 165, Rockford East H.S.), sophomore transfer post player Jack Harrison (6-7, 230 lbs, Southwestern C.C., Prior Lake H.S., MN) and NCAA Division 1 transfer guard George Cater (5-10, 165, Ball State Univ., Fort Zumwalt South H.S., MO).

Additionally, freshman guard DeSean Miller (5-10, 185, Skyline H.S., UT), freshman guard Frank Cimino (5-9, 160, Rockford Boylan H.S.) and freshman post player Sam Harrison (6-7, 195, Sibley East H.S., MN) will join the Golden Eagles program.

This spring, Doty announced the signings of freshman forward Jared Mayes (6-4, 185, Rockford Jefferson H.S.), freshman forward DeOntray Austin (6-3, 180, Rockford East H.S.), freshman forward Darius Brown (6-3, 175, Belvidere H.S.), freshman guard L.T. Davis (5-10, 180, Rockford Jefferson H.S.), freshman forward Dalton Payton (6-5, 175, Byron H.S.), freshman guard Jontrell Robinson (6-4, 170, Rockford East H.S.), and freshman guard Equavion Monroe (6-1, 180, Rockford Jefferson H.S.).

"We prioritized recruiting locally and we feel we got the best three players from the NIC-10 in Mayes, Grygiel and Box. This recruiting class increases our athleticism and creates depth at every position," said Doty, the 2013 Region IV Coach of the Year who went 19-16 overall in his debut season at RVC last year while winning the Region IV Championship and placing 7th at the NJCAA DIII National Tournament in Loch Sheldrake, NY. "My staff did a great job of identifying and developing strong relationships locally, getting into gyms for practices, scrimmages, games and all-star events and ultimately landing the student-athletes we want to represent the great institution of Rock Valley College."

Rock Valley College will play one of the toughest schedules in all of NJCAA D3 as they play 17 scholarship NJCAA D1 and NJCAA D2 programs this coming season. RVC basketball tips off in November.
