SCHAUMBURG (WREX) -

Rockford starter Nick Anderson shut down the Frontier League's top offense for seven innings Wednesday night at Boomers Stadium, as the Aviators, presented by Pearson, picked up a 4-1 win for the second straight night.

Anderson went seven strong and allowed just one run, a Steve McQuail home run in the bottom of the second inning. The right-hander allowed just three hits, struck out eight and walked just two. He did not allow more than one baserunner in a singe inning.

Down 1-0, the Aviators (30-47) struck for three runs in the third. Brandon Newton led off with a walk and went to second on Brian Bistagne's groundout. Jeff Kremer then singled to put runners on the corners. An RBI double from Matt Greener tied the game at one. Kenny Bryant came to the plate and sent a pitch into right field for a sacrifice fly that scored Kremer. Edgar Corcino followed with a two-out single to score Greener. Rockford led 3-1 through 2 1/2 innings.

Corcino hit a leadoff double in the sixth and scored three batters later on a Cohl Walla RBI single to give the Aviators a 4-1 lead.

After Nathan O'Bryan worked a scoreless eighth, Andrew Snowdon threw a perfect ninth to seal the victory for Rockford.

The finale of the series begins at 6:35 p.m. Thursday night at Boomers Stadium. Fans can listen on 100.5 NTA-FM or online at www.rockfordaviators.com.
