The Salvation Army and CherryVale Mall are teaming up again to help homeless students in Rockford District 205 start the school year off with some brand new clothes.
The 10th annual Clothes for Kids drive started Friday and runs through August 19 at the center court in CherryVale Mall. Donors can chose a student's name and buy the clothing the child's parents have requested, including shoes. Those items are then brought to the big yellow school bus to be donated.
Monetary donations will also be accepted and can be placed in the kettle at the display or mailed to The Salvation Army (P.O. Box 4159, Rockford, IL 61110) with "Clothes for Kids" written in the check's memo line. Checks sent with the memo will be used to purchase clothing.
Last year the program helped 500 homeless students, but this year the need has risen to 900 students.
