Aviators Win in Walk-Off Fashion

Greg Van Horn hit a single to center with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eleventh to send the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, to a 4-3 victory against the Gateway Grizzlies Thursday night.

Gateway (40-26) tied the game at three in the top of the eighth inning when Grizzlies shortstop Vladimir Frias hit a two-run home run to right field. It stayed tied until the bottom of the eleventh.
Matt Greener led off with a single, his third hit of the game. With one out, Michael Hur singled and Elvin Rodriguez came in to run for Greener at second base. Gabe DeMarco then walked to load the bases. Van Horn, who replaced Tyler Smith in the bottom of the tenth, sent a 3-2 pitch from all-star Zac Treece into shallow center field that brought home Rodriguez from third to send Rockford (24-41) to a win over Gateway for the second straight game.
Seafth Howe pitched two scoreless innings and picked up his third win of the season. The loss was just the first of the season for Gateway's Treece.
The series wraps up Friday night at 7:05 p.m. with Rockford's all-star Drew Rucinski taking the mound against Gateway's Matt Sergey. Fans can enjoy fireworks after the game, thanks to 96.7 The Eagle and the Rockford Register Star.
