Rockford native Derek Dimke is with his third NFL team in two years, as he tries to make a final roster for the first time.
Dimke is in a battle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker job. He's up against veteran Lawrence Tynes in camp, as one of them will replace the injured Connor Barth.
"I'm much more relaxed this year," Dimke said. "I'm enjoying it a lot more. I definitely feel like there's not as much pressure."
Dimke, a former Boylan High School and University of Illinois standout, came through in a pressure situation in practice Monday. He nailed a 56-yard field goal as time expired in a two-minute drill that tied the game for the Tampa Bay offense.
"All I can worry about is what I can control, which is my attitude and how I kick everyday," Dimke said.
WREX will continue to follow Dimke's attempt to make the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay opens the preseason next Thursday against Baltimore.
