BELOIT (WREX) -

A couple of throwing errors and a terrific outing by starter Colton Cain were key for the Quad Cities River Bandits to beat the Beloit Snappers, 4-1, in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field on Monday Night with 934 in attendance.

Monday's loss brings Beloit's record to 63-43 (20-16 in the second half). Quad Cities improves their record to 58-46 (20-15 in the second half).

The River Bandits scored in the top of the first inning when Carlos Correa plated Teoscar Hernandez on an RBI ground-out. Two throwing errors in the third allowed Terrell Joyce (2-3, 2 R) and Hernandez to score, putting the Snappers at an early 3-0 deficit. They tallied another unanswered run in the top of the fifth, as Correa singled to right to tally Joyce.

The Snappers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, when Aaron Shipman (2-4, 2B, BB) snuck home on a Christopher Bostick groundout. That was the only run Beloit scored off QC's starter.

Cain was dominant on the mound. He did not allow a runner past second base through his first four innings of work. Cain gave up five hits and one earned run to improve his record to 5-5.

Daniel Minor relieved the southpaw, tossing a strong one and two-third innings. Jordan Jankowski threw a scoreless inning and a third and Juan Minaya, who was awarded the save, threw a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

Next, the Snappers head to Clinton to face the Lumberkings at Ashford University Field. Tuesday's game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM. The Lumberkings are having LHP Scott DeCecco (8-7, 4.21 ERA) take the mound against Snappers RHP Dylan Covey (0-1, 5.93 ERA). The team will be back in Beloit on Wednesday, August 7th to take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels at 7:00 PM.
