Another effort, reaches out to young men in Rockford Saturday afternoon.
The "Boys To Men" conference calls on young men from 11 to 25. And they're covering the tough topics. Gangs, drugs and sex were talked about among other points.
The group hopes to empower young men by giving them father figures in their lives.
"So hopefully we can be mentors and provide them some type of mentorship where they can see something outside their normal neighborhoods," said Royce Dixon, the group's leader.
The conference took place at the Booker Washington Center.
