A man is dead after a load of steel fell on top of him Thursday morning.

Sixty-year-old Jimmy Hullinger of Rockford, an employee at Columbia Pipe & Steel Company, was unloading steel from a semi when the load shifted, knocked him to the ground, and steel fell on top of him. Other workers removed the steel prior to the first ambulance's arrival.

The man was transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center where he later died. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
