Recent Byron High School graduate Jackson Halsmer qualified for the U.S. Open Swim Meet in Irvine, California next week.
Halsmer qualified at a meet in Minnesota this past weekend with a time of 23.47 seconds in the 50-meter race. The qualifying time to beat was 23.49 seconds.
Now he'll get a chance to compete against some of the top swimmers in the country, including Ryan Lochte.
"It was good to get that cut and it's going to be a great experience," Halsmer said. "I definitely want to take it all in. It will be interesting to see how I stack up against some of the older guys. It's definitely going to be a learning experience overall."
Halsmer leaves for California next week and is scheduled to compete August 3rd. A few weeks after that, he'll leave to start his college career at the University of Iowa.
