Students in Rockford Public Schools district 205 prepare to go back to new and improved schools for the most part.
Come August 26th on the 1st day of school at Spring Creek Elementary, students will show up, with pen, paper, textbooks.
So will construction workers, but they'll have tools of a different kind.
Spring Creek's got the most going on right now," said RPS205 Chief Operations Officer, Todd Schmidt.
Along with Spring Creek, Auburn, McIntosh, Froberg, Johnson, Conklin and Lathrop will all start up the school year with ongoing construction.
"Most of the additions won't be completed by the time school starts. We knew that. They'll be completed in the November/December timeframe," said Schmidt.
A quick glance at Spring Creek now may lead you to believe the work will never be done.
"We'll be putting the new boiler room inside, we'll be doing some ADA accommodations, the front entrance security vestibule. We're doing work in the boiler room, the addition, sanitary work, drainage work, curbing, sidewalks, there's a lot going on out there right now."
But the trucks and heavy machinery will soon be replaced by new pavement, allowing a smooth entry into the front of the school.
"It was a tight timeline to get a lot of that stuff ready. Because of where that building is, we had to get a lot of that work done in front of the building so we can get into the building for school so there's a lot of work," said Schmidt.
Another thing the district is working on is a live feed of certain construction sites.
"This is a time lapse photography. One so we can sit here over the course of twelve months and we can play it back in a two minute video."
A link to the live cameras and time lapse will be available soon.
There will be question and answer sessions during registration this year for anyone confused about parking, pick-up and drop-off or other construction related topics.
