Washington, Penn. -

The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, battled but came up short on both ends of a doubleheader against the Washington Wild Things Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park by scores of 4-3 and 6-4.

Nick Cicio made his first professional start and pitched well for Rockford in game one, going five and two-thirds while allowing just two earned runs while he struck out a career-high ten batters. Washington was just too much, though.

The Wild Things got an RBI single from the newly-acquired Quincy Latimore to go up 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh and finish the scoring in game one.

Matt Phillips got the win for Washington in relief and is now 1-2 on the year. Jake Nicholson took the loss in relief for Rockford and is now 0-3. Jhonny Montoya picked up his sixth save of the year.

Game two looked to be a runaway win for Rockford early, as the Aviators jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two and a half innings. Aritz Garcia picked up an RBI single in the second inning, Michael Hur got a two-RBI double in the third, followed by an Edgar Corcino RBI groundout, but Rockford wouldn't score the rest of the game.

Washinton's A.J. Nunziato hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Rockford lead to 4-3.

Shain Stoner singled home Jovan Rosa to tie it at four after four innings.

The Wild Things got the go-ahead run on a wild pitch from Rockford reliever Jesus Del Rosario and then another run on Stoner's second RBI of the game and Washington led 6-4 after six innings.

The Aviators had runners at second and third in the seventh with one out, but Washington reliever Amalio Diaz got Kenny Bryant and Hur to strike out to end the game and picked up his second save of the year.

Zach Fleshman got the win in relief for the Wild Things and is now 1-0 on the season. Del Rosario took the loss for Rockford and is now 0-1.

The Aviators return home Thursday night for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Traverse City Beach Bums on Backyard Grill & Bar $1 Beer Night with Bud Light & 97 ZOK.
