The Winnebago County Health Department confirms a few more cases of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections.
It's a serious bacterial infection that has been reported after several people got their ears pierced. They're linked to one Rockford tattoo and piercing shop, but the Health Department won't say which one. The Health Department's laboratory has confirmed there are 12 cases of it, and four probable cases. The people reporting infections are between the ages of 13 and 49. All of them had their ears pierced between March and the beginning of July. Six people got so sick, they had to go to the hospital and have surgery.
The Health Department reminds people to keep any piercings dry and clean after you get them. If you think you have the bacterial infection, report it to the health department in the county you live in.
