Dolphin Swim Club owner passes away

A few Rockford swimming pools are a bit quieter than normal, as patrons and employees mourn the loss of their leader.

Tyler Brewer,  owner and operator of the five Dolphin Swim Clubs in Northern Illinois is laid to rest.  He passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday.

It's almost impossible to estimate how many children Tyler helped teach to swim. As an instructor, a coach, and business owner, the number may easily be in the thousands.

The Dolphin Swim Clubs re-opened today, after taking Sunday off to allow employees to morn their loss.

"The Dolphin Swim Club family is very close, he treated us as if we were his blood family," says Joy Weyrauch, manager of the Dolphin Swim Club outdoor facility.

Also included in that family are the swim club's patrons like Frankie Larsen. "He's just a pivotal point in my kids enjoying swimming and knowing how to swim, and it's a life skill and so I'm really grateful for him. It's a tragic loss for his family as well as for the community," says Larsen.

Brewer leaves behind his three children.  The question many are asking now, is what will the future of the Dolphin Swim Club look like without their leader?

"Tyler was a very good business man and he had lots of things in place. He has very strong managers and very strong leaders and he has put into place for us to only continue," says Weyrauch. "Our goal is to just keep his legacy going and grow and be stronger with his influences."

Brewer also served on the board of directors for a national organization, called the Safer 3 Foundation, which focuses on swim safety for kids all around the country.
