Rockford gas prices drop slightly, national prices on the rise

Although Rockford has seen a very slight drop in the price of gas over the last week, the national price per gallon has gone up.

According to's survey of 139 local outlets, the average price of gas in Rockford went down 2.9 cents per gallon last week to $3.78, an increase of 33.4 cents compared to last year, but unchanged since last month.

Nationally, prices went up 3.2 cents to $3.68 per gallon, up 19 cents higher than one year ago and 9.9 cents higher than a month ago.

"The national average has seen the upward trend continuing, with average prices climbing across an abundance of the U.S.," Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "The price of WTI oil continues to rise to levels not seen in quite some time, and that may continue, at least for the time being, to put more upward pressure on gasoline prices. While the worst may be behind us, I do believe the week ahead will likely feature another rise in the national average."
