Snappers Fall on Walk-Off Grand Slam

Posted:
Dayton, Ohio -

Seth Mejias-Brean hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of
the ninth inning to give the Dayton Dragons a 7-6 barnburner over the Beloit
Snappers in Midwest League action at Fifth Third Field on Thursday night.

Beloit has split the first two games of this series and they fall to 60-36
(17-9 in the second half). Dayton improves to 42-54 (14-13 in the second
half).

The bottom of the ninth started with Dayton trailing 6-3 after a three-run
triple by Nick Rickles broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the inning against Joel
Bender (3-2). Austin House was on the hill trying to close the game out, but
he was only able to pick up one out while walking three. It was at point
that pitcher Nolan Sanburn (0-2) entered the game to face Mejias-Brean (3-5,
HR, 6 RBI, run) and the Dragons third baseman brought the evening to a
dramatic conclusion.

Mejias-Brean started the scoring in the first with an RBI double for a 1-0
lead. In the fifth inning, the Snappers moved ahead thanks to a two-run
homer by Ryan Mathews, his 10th, and a run-scoring double by Daniel
Robertson.

Dayton rallied back with runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Tanner Rahier
and RBI knock by Mejias-Brean in the seventh. All this would be overshadowed
by a crazy ninth.

The series' rubber game is Friday night at 6:00pm CT. Beloit will look to
RHP Vince Voiro (5-3, 3.61 ERA) to take the finale while Dayton depends on
RHP Nick Travieso (3-3, 6.37 ERA).
