Belvidere teachers are one step closer to having a contract before school starts.
The Belvidere Education Association's bargaining team reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the Board of Education last week. Thursday night, B.E.A. members got together to vote on salaries and insurance.
Belvidere Education Association President, Mark Luthin, says members passed the contract and now it heads to the school board for a final vote.
"We want to teach. We want to be in the classroom. We want to focus on that. So if we can get the dirty job done in the summer, that's a good thing and if we can get our membership to approve it prior to the start of the school year, that's a good thing."
Luthin expects board members to approve the deal.
