Wisconsin man guilty in shooting death of teenage neighbor

A 76-year-old Wisconsin man has been found guilty in the shooting death of his 13-year-old neighbor.

John Henry Spooner of Milwaukee was convicted Wednesday of first-degree intentional homicide. The defense claimed Spooner believed Darius Simmons was stealing weapons from his home when he shot him in the chest last year.

The verdict brings an end to the first half of the trial. Because Spooner pled insanity, his lawyers must now prove he was suffering from a mental illness that prevented him from knowing right from wrong when he shot Simmons.

The burden of proof is now in the defense's hands.
