A new Illinois law is meant to help support minority- and female-owned businesses compete fairly for construction and business contracts funded by the state.
It allows businesses owned by minority females to be certified as both a female-owned business and a minority-owned business, increasing the pool of vendors in both categories and the business' chances of participating in state contracts.
Senate Bill 2320 was signed into law Wednesday and goes into effect immediately.
