Police say the two juveniles arrested are brother from out of state who were visiting their father.
According to Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Chris Endress, the boys set fire to a recycling bin behind the restaurant.
Two boys, ages 16 and 12, have been taken into custody for a fire that destroyed eight buildings in downtown Prophetstown early Monday morning.
According to Illinois State Police, the boys were arrested just after midnight on Tuesday and taken to a juvenile detention center in Galesburg.
The fire began in a restaurant around 2:00 a.m. Monday before spreading to businesses on either side. The Prophetstown Historical Society and several other buildings built in the early 1900s were also destroyed. The blaze was fully extinguished by 7:00 a.m.
No one was injured and formal charges have not yet been filed against the boys.
