Firefighters practice for train incidents

Rockford area firefighters prepare for emergencies like the Canadian train explosion.

Union Pacific brought this train car to Rockford at the company's cost to teach firefighters how to identify the contents of the car, how to stop minor leaks and how to minimize the impact on the community.

Rockford Fire Department, Lieutenant Kyle Hill says the potential is always there.

"Even though the potential is low, I mean we have more car accidents in the area then we do train incidents but we've had a really good working relationship with the train companies in this area, specifically Union Pacific."

The train will be in Rockford also July 13th to train hazardous materials teams.
