Eagle Scout builds benches for senior living facility

A Rockford Eagle Scout is giving back to his community by helping to better a local senior and affordable living facility.

Sixteen-year-old Martin Carlson built and donated three benches for the Valley View apartment complex to earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He is the nephew of one of the complex's current residents and has been visiting the facility since age three, so when it came time to perform his community volunteer project, Carlson chose Valley View.

The teen cut, sanded, drilled, and stained the benches himself, dedicating one to his grandfather who passed away in 2010.
