Local group sets out to help seniors stay cool during summer

A Rockford group is setting out to help area seniors stay cool during the hot summer months.

Seniors are more susceptible to heat stroke and dehydration, making heat very dangerous and sometimes deadly. In response, Emeritus at Rockford is joining the national Shade Brigade effort to bring coolers of water, popsicles, juice, and fruit to local seniors in need. They're also sharing tips on how to stay cool when the heat gets to be too much.

The program's goal is to reach 5,000 seniors nationally. If you know of someone in need, call Community Relations Director Aaron Thomas at 815-332-8484 or email rockford-crd@emeritus.com.
