While it may seem like there is plenty of summer left, the back to school season is quickly approaching and some parents are already preparing.
Local stores started stocking their shelves with supplies earlier this week, even though local kids won't be strapping on their backpacks for at least another month. However, a local Target employee says parents who get an early start on back to school shopping usually come out ahead because there are special sales earlier in the season.
The National Retail Federation says 77 percent of parents say the current economy has affected their school supply spending. Last year, families spent almost $700 on related items.
