A Beloit man has succumbed to injuries sustained in a Sunday evening home explosion.
Todd Purdy suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns when the Beloit home he was renting exploded Sunday evening. The Rock County Coroner's Office was contacted by UW Hospital in Madison early Thursday morning saying Purdy had passed. The unofficial cause of death was a combination of burns and smoke inhalation.
Investigators say the explosion was caused after a new gas stove was installed in the home. Both the stove and an open-end connection were on the same line, and when the gas stove was turned on, the basement of the home filled with natural gas. An unknown source then ignited the gas, causing the home to explode and collapse.
The home's other occupant, Tara Purdy, suffered cuts, bruises, and minor burns and is in fair condition at the Madison hospital.
