ROCKFORD (WREX) -

The Rockford Police Department is reminding residents of the city's curfew ordinance.

The ordinance affects anyone under the age of 17. Those individuals are not allowed to be present in or upon a public assembly, building, place, street, or highway within the City of Rockford between the following times:

  • 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday
  • 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday

An exception is made if the minor is accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible companion who is at least 21 years old and has been approved by a parent or legal guardian. If the minor is engaged in a lawful occupation, an exception may be made as well.

If the ordinance is violated, the minor's parent or legal guardian will be required to appear in court along with the minor in question.
