WINNEBAGO - (WREX) -

Today's great weather made it a nice morning to get out and run and that's just what some folks in Winnebago did this morning.

Around 170 runners and walkers came out this morning for the annual Firecracker 5k. The event got underway this morning at Winnebago High School.

The run raises money for the Winnebago Park District to make improvements and better serve their community.

"The race, basically the proceeds of the race go to our programs, enhancing the park , making improvements to the park, and making improvements to the program," said Firecracker 5K Director Michelle Cunningham.

The top three finishers in each age bracket take home a medal. There's also an award for best overall male and female runner.
