High school students make up about 15 percent of the blood donated in our area. With schools out for the summer, those donations drop.
To keep the resource flowing, the Rock River Valley Blood Center hosted a high school reunion blood drive at CherryVale Mall. About 80 donors took time out of their day to help save a life, one of which will win a Nook tablet.
"Because what we are trying to do is not only help our blood supply currently, but to create lifelong donors in these high school students. And we've really seen that that's happening. So we do like to give them opportunity to come to a fun blood drive like this one," said Melinda Garrington, RRVBC High school Coordinator.
The blood drive continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CherryVale's center court.
